7 things you should remember before your
pre-wedding photoshoot!
Planning your pre-wedding photoshoot? Here are some tips from a wedding photographer that can help you get the best couple pictures!
Pre-wedding photo shoots can be the sweetest part of the courtship before being married. Whether it is a love marriage or an arranged marriage, a pre-wedding photoshoot can bring back romantic memories and who doesn’t want that?!
Getting the perfect shot while truly enjoying yourselves only adds to the lovely experience. If you or someone you know is planning a pre-wedding photoshoot, here are some essential tips to enhance your experience, coming straight from a creative pre-wedding and wedding photographer.
-
Ensure that the outfit compliments the location - You should ideally pick a maximum of 2 to 3 outfits for your pre-wedding shoot. The colour of these outfits should match the location and time of the shoot. This will help you and the photographer create the best shots that don’t look odd or washed out against the background. So, even if you have a fabulous dress in your wardrobe, but it is not the right colour, consider splurging on a new dress for the best pictures. Discuss a colour scheme with your photographer if you need help.
For example, this couple wanted a minimalist couple photo shoot which is why they picked neutral colours against a neutral background that enhanced their natural skin tone as a subtle contrast. On the other hand, contrasting colour palettes are wonderful for dramatic pictures.

2.Carry comfortable footwear - If you have a planned a multi-location photoshoot or if you will have to walk around, ensure that you’re carrying a comfortable pair of slippers. Stylish heels look amazing in photos, but walking around in them could make you feel extremely tired and cause discomfort, which might taint the experience for you. Here’s a to-be bride who chose chic, comfortable sneakers for her pre-wedding photos, and you can see that she is loving it!

3.Pre-plan a theme and some poses - Discuss your ideas with your photographer so that both of you are prepared on the day of the shoot. Choose which angles suit you best and what kind of poses would best reflect your relationship. This could be a fun photoshoot or a super romantic, or go all-out with a bollywood-themed one. Keep the time of the day and the weather in mind for the perfectly lit shots as well. Here’s a couple that chose the Holi theme and took the most intimate shots in beautiful natural light!

4.Always have back-ups - This includes back-ups for make-up, hairstyle, and accessories. And ladies, don’t forget to groom your nails! Being prepared goes a long way in creating a smooth experience that you will remember for days to come! And, the details always matter. Here is a beautiful shot of a bride-to-be capturing intricate details for the perfect delicate shot. Hair, on point; nails, on point; accessories, on point; smile, on point!

5.Choose your props thoughtfully but don’t go overboard - The center of attention should be you - the couple! Props can add beautiful effects and convey a theme, but too many props can spoil the shot. A subtle prop creates the best effect in accentuating the couple. This couple used the perfect prop that contrasts their look and compliments the background, all without being too obvious or taking the attention away from the couple, obviously and madly in love!

6.Invest in a good bag or organiser - This cannot be emphasised enough. One of the most popular things that a couple tends to overlook is the carry bag containing all of the props, make-up, accessories, change of clothes, shoes and everything else! If you are planning to carry a lot of items, carrying a good organiser or a good bag can help you keep everything safe and super easy to carry around as well. Here are some suggestions that you can opt for.
7.Talk to your photographer (A LOT!) - Your photographer is your best friend. Have extensive conversations about what you have in mind and what you love. Photographers are creative professionals who will find a way to your make your dream turn into a reality. Go ahead and tell them your cute love story and tell them your limitations with the shoot as well. If you love candid photographs, your photographer should give some prompts to help you react naturally for the most natural candid shots. I love giving some super personalised prompts since I know the couple’s story, and the couples are always pleasantly surprised, giving me the perfect candid picture!

Bonus Tip: The best pictures are clicked when you’re relaxed and having fun. Don’t treat your own pre-wedding photoshoot as a task that you have to do. Just have fun and think of all the beautiful memories you and your partner will be creating together.
Best of luck!
